Construction project tracking template
One row per task, one package per task, and two filters that earn their keep at every site meeting: what's blocked, and what has to finish this week.
What's in the template
- Site, Package (groundwork, roofing, plumbing, electrical, finishes), Task, Owner.
- Planned start and Planned end: two real dates.
- Progress (%): a number, so it rolls up by package.
- Status: not started, in progress, blocked, awaiting sign-off, done.
- Snag cleared, Observations.
The filters that do the work
The template arrives with its typed columns. Each filter below takes two clicks on the grid, and it remembers your setup between visits.
- Blocked: the only list that matters in the meeting.
- This week: tasks due within seven days and not finished.
- By package: so you can prepare a session with one trade without scrolling the rest of the site.
- Open snags: finished tasks whose snag isn't cleared. That's what drags at handover.
Why not a spreadsheet for this
- A site has outside parties. Letting a subcontractor read the file also lets them change it and download it. A viewer role reads without writing, is revoked in one click, and costs nothing. Note that the role covers the account; it does not hide a package.
- Progress is entered from the field. A "40" typed on a phone into the wrong cell shifts a whole row, and nobody notices until the summary.
- Status and dates get tangled. "blocked waiting on delivery" written into a date column, and the programme stops meaning anything. Here status, date, and observation are three separate fields.
Your summaries stay in Google Sheets. Progress curve, programme, roll-up by package: the table feeds your sheet and your charts don't move.
FAQ
Can I track several sites in one table? Yes, the Site field is there for that. Filter on it if you run many at once.
Is this a Gantt chart? No. This template holds progress and blockers. If you want a Gantt, build it in your Sheet from the synced dates.
How do I handle handover snags? The "Snag cleared" checkbox and the "Open snags" filter are exactly that: a finished task with an uncleared snag stays visible until it's cleared.
This template is one of the Rowbase templates. If you're still weighing whether to leave your sheet, read what happens when two people edit the same row instead.
